I wanted to try ANYTHING from these guys at AZW and then Tim Weable sends me a 200 growler release which also happens to be the best thing that they have brewed to date. For no reason.
So this was aged in pappy van winkle 23, buffalo trace and buffalo trace rye barrels. The abv clocked in a 11.5% abv but this speaks more to the gentle slick and relatively thin attenuation at play rather than being ham fisted in the grain bill to needlessly drive off the balance. This is a balanced, tight, fully pumped stout that pours clean an wispy like Czar Jack, clings to the edges and drapes webbing down with a mocha ink, just beautiful. If you want a sticky FG bomb like Huna, move on, the real tickers are talking. This is a work of precision and oxygen massaging in the same wheelhouse of Pugachev’s where the message is nuance and delivered without a cup of brownie batter dolloped in your glass.
The taste is dry and exhibits almond and caramel, a marshmallow only pvw drops, with a lingering oak akin to that American oak profile that is woody and herbal almost.
I cannot recommend this enough , blend 50/50 pvw eclipse with pvw black majick and this is the result, a ridiculously roasty marshmallow and Rolo extravaganza.
God damn
Drinking world class stouts > watching soccer
Tim Weable was great in King of Kong: Fistfull of Quarters. Who knew he was a beer nerd?
